Announcement

Barbie Film Night August 16th at AgeSong: 580 Hayes St. at Laguna

Film Night: Thursday, August 16th from 5:30 -9:30!!!! at 580 Hayes St.

Films will include:

All New for this year: "Excerpt" by Sergiu Lupse
this is a beautiful, dark short that explores the humanization of the doll through memory and trauma. As the filmmaker commented:
"I believe our society is built on moral values that are completely wrong. We've built this model of the successful model man and woman, no factors from the outside, no interaction with other people feeling , keeping ourselves safe, just like we're inside a plastic box, a doll, who wants out. I transformed the beautiful and blond Barbie doll into a living human, giving her emotions and memories. Maybe I was trying to relate to my own existence, the way life is always here to surprise you. Trauma is one way of showing one's passage through this life. So i guess Altered Barbie means for me a metamorphosis, a butterfly emerging from it's chrysalis, beginning a new life, starting anew."

"The Tribe" by Tiffany Shlain
"What can the most successful doll on the planet show us about being Jewish today? Narrated by Peter Coyote, the film mixes old school narration with a new school visual style. The Tribe weaves together archival footage, graphics, animation, Barbie dioramas, and slam poetry to take audiences on an electric ride through the complex history of both the Barbie doll and the Jewish people- from Biblical times to present day. By tracing Barbie's history, the film sheds light on what it means to be an American Jew in the 21st Century."

One month old EXCERPT

Today i finally finished EXCERPT, a short film for an Art show in San Francisco, Art Show involving Barbie Dolls. I said finally, because my main thing was getting a good story and i kinda had to wait for that to happen. I got used to wait until ideas spring to mind. I've seen some really good works from last year on this show. I hope EXCERPT finds his way into the show. The story it's about a traumatized Barbie doll who doesn't remember her past. In one stormy night, she discovers under a cupboard a broken photograph. This is the trigger that brings her to terms with the reality she lives in. I can say i liked the subject a lot, i'm not sure i made the idea understandable enough. Well hope guides me. This Sunday i'm taking a trip to Karlovy Vary and then to Prague for a motion capture and film making workshop. AH! THE WEST! BRING ME TO THE WEST! Still trying to figure out the screenplay, and no its' not easy, i'm starting to believe that's almost impossible. :)) Future will tell.

Not dispairing yet, i have time for that when i’m dead

Have been turned down by two film festivals already. One they didn't have any room for it, another they just didn't like it. Been working for almost two weeks on another short film for an art show in San Francisco, hopefully I can finish it in time for the deadline. It's a Sin City style film about a woman and her wish to look beyond the scars on her face.

Well, well, well… seems so long ago

Hi Everyone! Been quite busy for a while now, trying to work this script, who just doesn't seem to come out of me just yet. The script is still under development, characters are there, the story is coming along great, but i find myself in lack of motivation sometimes. More layout design for websites I guess, more vfx work for myself and a few great ides for future whatever.

The Surgeon is Back :))

Well, it's been a while since i wrote any news, so here goes. I've been digging for info for my screenplay, it's really not that easy as i thought. There are a lot of issues that i need to cover, characters that need to be believable and that takes time, at least for me :). Beside trying to build the screenplay I've been sending GLOW to a few festivals out there through Film Depot. The Brussels Film Festival said no thanks, i'm waiting for a response from the Zagreb 25FPS and Sapporo Film Festivals. Next two i'm sending to is in Brazil and Germany. Hopefully people will get to see it. In other words of universal randomness, I've started designing various websites (layouts anyway) for a few friends, and funny enough i just had one of those springy new ideas for a short film. Something Sci-fi of course, involving a robot and a human. I like the premise a lot, the way humanity creates and destroys things just to recycle them back. Well, hopefully sometime in august will begin shooting. I'll let you know how that develops. That's pretty much about what i'm doing right now. Things tend to change over time so who knows, maybe i'm going to be someplace else in a while...Cheers!

New year, new hopes, one road and no money

Happy happy 2007 (gosh i can't even spell it right - is it really 2007?) well i do feel older i guess, take it as you want it, time was always a major problem for me, time seems to run out on me on everything i do, or don't do really.  I have one film of mine playing at an art exhibition in San Francisco called "The TV of Tomorrow" in february (oh golly :))) and i'm submitting GLOW to 2 more festivals. For everybody else out there trying to make it out on their own (and actually doing it) the best of luck.

Not sooner, not later, just sometime next month…

Still working on my new website (now tweaking the HCF links - movies), hope to get to an end sometime next week. The link will be available at www.sergiulupse.ro (at the moment you can see the main index and a few links to some of my stuff). Found out a new place where I'll show my film "Trace & Shadow", more details next month.

Chippy old Chip

Just bought the official website. It's not much at this time, but will eventually be (end of November). Hopefully with good stuff :P. Till then, working on my brother website and my father's. Next week an exhibition in Alba Iulia with the whole U.A.P. Bistrita. No other big news, i submitted GLOW to the Brussels Film Festival for next year. An idea just popped into my head (while eating) - Eating broccoli soup with Bjork. Wonder who she eats it with, or how she likes it. Does she even like broccoli?

Ziggy Stardust all the way to China :)

"She'll come, she'll go. She'll lay belief on you, Skin sweet with musky oil, The lady from another grinning soul... And when the clothes are strewn don't be afraid of the room, Touch the fullness of her breast. Feel the love of her caress, She will be your living end...". Listening to David Bowie calms me a lot, for some weird reason. Things seem to go so slow now that the movie has been released. I've submitted to www.fylmz.com and by tomorrow might be online. I have a poster for the film and a promotional photography. In other words of universal randomness, I'm doing an intro for a friend's website, and picking up the pieces for a screenplay I want to write. Some photography along the way every now and then. Been thinking about sending the film to festivals, but as I've checked almost all of them had deadlines till October 2006. So, I guess next year. 🙁 Lulla Bye
